Like the kind that goes out and attacks another country for profit? We already have that kind of military.

Political commentary aside, you are right, we don't want so much politics in our military. We just want them to get the job done.

The other thing to keep in mind, is that an extra star and more officers means that SOCCOM gets bigger...and more bureaucratic. The organization as a whole could fall prey to a host of management games that have little to do with the core job. We want an entreprenurial Special Forces, not an institutionalized Special Forces.

It's probably too early to tell one way or the other though.
