Late Night Thursday but really, it is Friday

I’m listening to the Canon Puncture episodes of our Star Wars Episode LV PTA, reviewing for the second episode to come at this coming Gen Con. Neat stuff I picked up Star Wars themed playing cards for the game this year..

Reading: I’m finally reading Spaceman Blues: a love song by Brian Francis Slattery. Rob gave me this book for my birthday last year and I’m finally getting around to it. I’m a quarter of the way through it and its nifty.

Wearing: Flannel pajama pants.

Planning: I plan to clean the living room up tomorrow evening before heading out to visit my lady-friend for the weekend. I’d also like to write up an AP thread for our Misspent Youth game we played last weekend.

Writing: 1st Quest Ashcan…time is a ticking.

And you?

  1. Reading: Re-reading my volumes of Prince of Tennis. Forgot how much I enjoy sports manga. Trying to get back into Yiddish Policeman’s Union, which is dazzling but draining.

Wearing: DSI Comedy Theater shirt, black jeans.

Planning: Registered for graphic design classes at the community college. In two years I will have a piece of paper saying I have trianing and stuff! Setting up to look for more illustration work.

Producing: Putting the final touches on my work for Labyrinths & Lycanthropes for Joe Prince. It’s looking pretty good. Trying to think of a solid premise for a 3-page comics story.

  4. Reading: Grave Peril (still, I know. I fail at reading) and 7th Sea. I may have sold some of our group on it and a campaign looks likely in the foreseeable future.

Wearing: Light brown trousers, stone t-shirt.

Planning: More shilling for 7th Sea, more stuff for my Deadlands game.

Writing: The Wordverse on the Atomic Think Tank forums. Current story is a Batman one.

    • 7th

Are you going to play old school 7th Sea or the d20ified version?

We played the old school version a bunch of years ago and it was nifty, though our GM hacked at it so hard I can’t really say that I know the original system at all.

Planning: GenCon demos, housewarming party, Trail of Cthulhu game

Writing: Reviews, fiction and a new pitch for Verona

  14. Reading: Working my way through the manga series Death Note. Very instense stuff–about a kid who can kill people just by writing their name in a a notebook and concentrating on their face.

Wearing: Green pants, tan striped shirt, worn-out sneakers.

Planning: Tickets to see King Lear at the PA Shakespeare Festival tomorrow. I’ve never seen it before, so I’m psyched.

Producing: Got another potential playtester for The Game Known As Serial But Not For Long.

    • Death Note is great, especially the first seven or so volumes. If you like the art you should check out Hikaru No Go, which is great manga about playing Go drawn by the same person (Takeshi Obata).

      • We were reading Hikaru No Go for a while, serialized in Shonen Jump magazine, and loving it. I really loved the way that they crafted tension in the build-up to the major conflict of what would be the season climax in a TV show: Hikaru’s game vs. Ochi in the pro test. The fact that it was handled almost completely off-panel, and on the very next page they start building tension for the next big game, left me feeling cheated. I understand that it might be a cultural gap regarding the uses of anticlimax, but I couldn’t bring myself to read anymore after that. I no longer trusted the author.

But, I do agree, the art is beautiful!

    • Oh, I’ve started that series too — just read the first 2 volumes. I’ve been warned that it gets less good as it goes, but right now, it’s awesome.

King Lear became a lot more popular after WW II.

  18. Re: Playing Houses of the Blooded is called Blooding

The players made characters last Sunday. I’ve got an Elk, Fox, and Bear.

All three of the players are a little wary of the shared narration but they like the Ven.

  20. Reading: Just finished Trail of Cthulhu and the scenario book for same. I’m working my way through the latest issue of Alarums & Excursions. I’m trying to figure out if I have any time to finish anything else by Tuesday night, and what I should bring as reading material to WorldCon.

    Wearing: T-shirt, pants.

Writing: My zine for Alarums & Excursions.

Planning: Job hunting. Packing for WorldCon. Maybe blogging about some of the movies I’ve seen. Eating. Breathing more easily now that I’m done with the shredder for the day — I’m allergic to dust. Reviewing finances and bills. Blogging about how one of the most annoying things about paying ER bills is that one has no idea of how many different bills might be coming.

    • Oh yeah, and making sure I back up all my old 3 1/2″ floppies. Finding a 5 1/4″ drive that I can attach to one of our computers so I can back up those floppies would be nice, but is trickier.
