Batman Next

Word around the campfire is that it is Johnny Depp as Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

I’d love to see Gotham’s first super-villainous gang war, entirely inspired by the Joker’s psychotic shenanigans. I see them as two small-time crooks, languishing in dank corners of the Gotham underworld when they see what the Joker accomplished with willpower and a new face and two super-villains are born, filling the void left from Dark Knight.

Someone on RPG.net posted a theory for the Riddler to be a Gotham cop who is charged with bringing down Batman. That is pretty keen too. Riddler as a federal agent tasked with bringing down Gotham’s vigilante would be neat.

I think a Catwoman could fit in there too, as dense as Dark Knight was, but that would be stretching it.

Not a fan of the goggles, but Angelina in latex? Yes.

And not a snitch, that was the wrong way to put it — I meant more a smart player who always has what you want, just enough so that you aren’t willing to nail her for her wrongs. (Nail her in other ways, sure….)

  1. Urgh.

After Ghul and Joker elevating the Batman villian out of the realm of bank jobs and into the limelight of city spanning terrorism, I don’t want a cat burglar figuring into the scene. What’s she going to do? Unless she’s stealing a nuclear warhead it’s all small potatoes.

Now my DK penguin is all about hostile, HOSTILE business takeovers. Publically upstanding and unassailable in every way, but vicious and power mad under the skin.

My preferred Riddler concept is that of a killer who uses the modus operandi of other assassins, but with one clue out of place as his signature. Plenty of hitmen have been sent up for the murders they didn’t commit, because the cops overlooked the different angle of the first rifle round from the second, or didn’t question the odd location of the fingerprints.

If the Penguin were to hire that Riddler to assassinate some key businessmen in Gotham, like for example the top men at Wayne Enterprises, then we might have a movie.

    • The Cat and the Bird

I want her there as a woman who accepts Bruce for what he is, a psycho who dresses up as a bat and beats people up,and maybe encourages the worst in him right along with it. It isn’t about her heists so much that she is shady and that she is a post-Joker costumed villain who is also turning Gotham’s underworld into a very different place.

Penguin has someone who challenges both Bruce and Bat is a neat idea.
