Changed Friday

Reading: Still trudging through Accelerando and really enjoying it but have left it here and there all week, killing my reading habits dead.

Planning: This weekend, the house needs to get cleaned…room tidied, shower curtain replaced, dishes wacked.

Wearing: Jeans and a blue polo shirt.

Writing: I have ditched NaNoWriMo to continue tinkering with Sorcerer in the Solar System.

And you?

  1. Reading: Nothing

Planning: Hangouts with some peeps this weekend. Maybe getting some swim stuff together.

Wearing: White short-sleeved button up shirt. Jeans. Sneakers.

Writing: Gonna re-write The Final Girl.

  4. Reading: Still trying to get through Hell House. Not sure why it’s going so slow other than the fact that I’ve been real busy.

Planning: To finish up an urgent deadline probably tomorrow and then celebrate being finished by hanging out with friends on Sunday. I also have cake planning to do for Russ’s birthday!

Wearing: Black shirt, short brown skirt, black knee-highs and stripey black and white arm warmers. Inky filthy fingers.

Arting: I’m illustrating and designing labels for those Neil Gaiman Graveyard Book perfumes. Have to finish them as soon as possible so the Lab can start fulfilling their orders. Kind of high profile for me, so I have to do a really good job, but do them fast! No pressure or anything! Ah!

  7. Reading: Rereading Essential X-Men vol. 1 & various comics from the ’70s & ’80s as inspiration for my NaNoWriMo story.

Planning: Beyond NaNoWriMo, not a whole lot.

Wearing: Green trousers, blue sweater vest, white shirt, red Chucks.

Writing: I’m behind in my NaNoWriMo word count, but I’m having enough fun writing the story that I don’t care.

  10. Reading Green Mars still, off and on. The first section is all from Nigral’s perspective, but although I like his character later on in the series, like Michael Duval in Red Mars, it’s a part I know I have to get through. Currently I’m on the section with Art Randolph, who is just totally awesome and makes macroeconomics interesting.

While reading this, I see how Kim Stanley Robinson presents infodumps into the fiction, making them lively and engaging. It just reminded me about how much I hated the clunky writing of Dan Brown’s The DaVinci Code.

I also need to read The Art of War and The Prince.

Planning on heading to Flagstaff this weekend! Fun!

Wearing clothing with long sleeves as it’s finally cool in Arizona! Comfy grey shirt, jeans, and socks. Yes, socks. But if I have to step outside, it’s back to the birkies.

Writing an outline for our game convention’s post-convention analysis. What we did right, what we did wrong, what we can improve upon.

  13. Reading: Nope, nothing right now. I did read the last few pages of Interstellar Pig, since I knew mostly how it went and wanted to see how it ended before I got rid of it.

Planning: Taking care of the new baby (!)

Wearing: Jeans, brown shirt, Western-style brown plaid overshirt (with mother-of-pearl buttons, natch), wool cap knitted by my mom.

Writing: I’m reimagining and twisting around some D&D classics for fun. So far I’ve ruminated and written some on stirges, goblins and wererats.

  16. Reading: The Assemblies of Al Hariri and a large translation of the I-Ching.

Planning: Recovery from yet another dentist appointment. Hanging out with friends. Chilling.

<>Wearing: Jeans and a black polo shirt.

    Writing: Nothing really.

      • Re: Assemblies of Al Hariri?

It’s a translation of Sufi stories of Al Hariri meeting the trickster/poet Abu Zayd. Between the poetic descriptions and the cultural bits, it’s pretty interesting overall, though I’m not yet catching the full drift of it. Luckily, each chapter is self contained and short, so I’m skipping around a bit.

  19. Reading: Just finished Perdido Street Station, enjoyed it a lot once I got past the 200-page mark. Nice to see a fantasy writer render a universe that is unconcerned with its protagonists.

Planning: To work for my corporate overlords all weekend.

Wearing: Very comfortable boxer-briefs, and lying on a couch.

Writing: An oracle for writing-prompt purposes and a crossbreed game for my custom dice.

  23. Reading: Sort between books. I’m currently back on River of Gods.

Planning: Job hunting. Going to Intercon Mid Atlantic this weekend, something and I agreed to do when used his wiles on us at the larp Torch of Freedom this past weekend. Figuring out how to apply what we learned from playing and running Torch to Dark of the Moon and other larps we’re working on creating.

Wearing: Jeans, t-shirt for Delta Green, sneakers.

Writing: Currently, email. Planning to work on my zine for Alarums and Excursions and my write up of Torch, for the Torch group online, as if it went public, zrealm might be morally obligated to kill me, as my write ups are full of spoilers.
