Tired, a little hung over Friday

I went and visited Janaki, who was staying at a bed and breakfast/winery for work. That was a splendid evening. The morning, not so splendid.

Reading: I’ve been looking at Lovecraft short stories and bits of books about the Bikini Atoll and aircraft carriers. Yes, it is all connected.

Planning: A nice weekend with my ladyfriend. Tonight I’m going to head out and wrassle.

Wearing: Jeans and a brown button down.

Writing: Looking at a short story that has a first draft but needs some tinkering and refining now.

And you?

  1. (Bikini Atoll & Lovecraft? Hmm. Invaders from a faraway place take away your land and expose it to the nuclear chaos for unfathomable reasons, leaving your people sick and mutated? Sounds sadly accurate…)

Reading: Reflections by Idries Shah. Inspectres, Shock.

Planning: Checking out Les Nubians free concert this weekend.

    Wearing: Warmups & black T

Writing: More AU Glorantha goodness. Need to get back to Emperor’s Heart. Might actually have the brainpower to do some this weekend.

    • I’d love to hear about what you do with Shock: – that game is nifty.

Yeah, I had an idea about a Lovecraftian scenario on an aircraft carrier, shared it with Bill White and he added the Bikini-spin. What a fucking harrowing and awful thing.

  5. Reading: “Father and I: Memories of Lafcadio Hearn” by his son, Kazuo Koizumi. Also working through “Birds of Prey: Of Like Minds”.

Planning: Fighting a cold. Zoo with my daughter. Polling friends for interest in one-on-one gaming.

Wearing: Blue short sleeve button down and travel slacks.

Writing Drawing: Concept sketches for a gift project I’ve been working on. Also, inspired by the story of Momotaro, sketched a pheasant from a photo. Don’t have time for finished pieces this week, but keeping up practice.

  9. Reading: Clash of Kings. Though somehow it disappeared in my house yesterday. How does a book that big disappear?

Planning: Good Omens Con 3 7/18. 14 scheduled games! Great GMs! And best of all it’s free! (we just as you bring canned food for a charity). Okay, I’ll stop pimping my ride in your LJ.

Wearing: Rust red shorts and a blue button down tee.

Writing: Real writing or internet writing? None of the former. AP reports and discussion of teaching the game in the game for the latter.

  13. Reading: Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. I want to love this, but I’m not sure what to think about it yet. Some of it’s really great, and some of it just feels too much like authorial masturbation. Like, “I did this research so I’m going to put ALL of it in here.” But it’s a work of fiction without proper credits, so it feels a little like a Dan Brown railroad.

Planning: Nothing! Yay! Probably catch up on some chores, finish burning up my BE character (maybe even make an illustration of him) and otherwise enjoy an obligation-free weekend.

Wearing: Stripped brown tank top and dark blue sweat shorts. Eagerly awaiting my order of maternity clothes – pants just aren’t fitting like they used to. 🙂

Writing: Not too much at the moment. Need to focus more on pottery and illustration.

      • Re: Snow Crash

My basic problem with Diamond Age is that there’s this brilliant young lady, and all she can think of to do with her talents is to write scripts for a whorehouse, and when push comes to shove, her coworkers will turn on her anyway. It just seems that there should be something more to life.

  17. Snow Crash

Lots of folks rave about Snow Crash but I thought it was kinda cute. Diamond Age is where Neal Stephenson really grabbed and he continued grabbing me with Cryptonomicon.

  23. Reading: Lucha Libre Hero, at the moment.

Planning: Finishing up a freelance project, uploading photos and transcribing notes from Origins, noting what I’ve pruned from my books and what I’ve acquired, and waiting for the DexCon schedule.

Wearing: White jeans and Final Mints t-shirt.

Writing: Composing a couple of touchy emails in my head, working on my zine for Alarums and Excursions which will have various write ups.
