Almost Hot Friday

What an odd, tepid summer it has been.

Reading: I have picked up Iron Council again and have begun to re-read that.

Planning: Lots of running around and visiting friends this weekend.

Wearing: Jeans and a Dragon Day t-shirt with my vibram ten fingered shoes.

Writing: I have been trying to make progress on a couple of things and it just isn’t going anywhere this week.

And you?

  1. I just finished PSS and The Scar (reading them both NOW for the first time … what can I say, my reading list is pretty damned long). Today, Amazon brings me Iron Council (and Season 1 of Leverage on DVD, which I’ve not yet seen).

And then I, my wife, and our daughter Sophie leave the DC metro area for a week down in Myrtle Beach. Much suntan lotion will be slathered, many books will be read, many crabs will be eaten, and possibly some writing will get done.

  9. Reading: just finished “Final Crisis”. What a load of drek. Still working through The Scar.

Planing: Hopefully trying to relax this weekend, watch a movie with a friend next weekend, and go to wineries the weekend after.

Wearing: Gold dragon / red flame dress shirt, slack-material shorts.

Writing: Nothing much. There’s a story trying to percolate in my head, but its just sort of fits and starts.

  13. Reading: Time to start setting aside some readtime every night for The Scar.

Planning: Ellen’s coming home tonight so hangouts with her, but some work responsibilities are intruding on my weekend.

    Wearing: Polo shirt, jeans, sneakers.

Writing: Working on an alpha draft of The Final Girl.

  17. Reading: The Ruins by Scott Smith. It is hardcore. Unfortunately, I saw the movie first. And though I loved it, it means I don’t get to be surprised by the book as often. Though it is a great read.

Planning: Getting a house and moving. Also spending a week at the beach soon. Both awesome.

Wearing: Black tank top and capris.

    Arting: Pants. Lots of them.

    • Our lives are running in tandem, it seems. We (hopefully) settle on our house when we return from the beach.

I, however, am not wearing capris (although I am sporting a black “Yin-Yarr!” t-shirt).

        • And you are (and have been) duly credited on my LJ userpics page. 🙂 Judd’s Mu and Justin’s Passages are two of my favorite RPG books, in no small part due to your arty stuff (and secondarily to Judd’s & Justin’s brilliance, of course).

          Thus endeth the sucking-up… 🙂

  23. Reading: <>Monkey: a Folk Tale of China and <>Secret History of the World. One is like a meditation class crossed with Dargonball and the other is like being inside Ken Hite’s head.

Planning: A Fate 3.0 one-shot set in 17th Century Venice. And a trip to the park with Al.

Wearing: Green shorts and a Hawaiian shirt ’cause we are not having a mild summer in Orlando.

Writing: A wuxia story for my daughter with a) a strong female protagonist and b) conflict resolution without violence/killing. Not a lot to model it on but fun. Stealing a lot of themes and scenes from Avatar.

  29. R: Listening to Gormenghast, still. Working on God Delusion and Jorge Luis Borges’ Fictions. Reading up on some BW stuff for fun, mostly the Monster Burner. I still can’t get excited about the Great Wolves and Roden, but I’m trying.

P: Bite of Seattle this weekend! Looking forward to some chocolate fondue, deep-fried alligator, among other things.

W: Nixon shirt, plaid overshirt, brown jeans.

W: I’ve been trying to do at least a nightly sentence on my Persian War-inspired story. I also got inspired to try my hand at a solo RPG. Weird, I know.

  33. Reading: Desolation Road – Which, if I had to describe it after reading 5 chapters, is a Western novel fused with Ray Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles, but with higher tech than either. Pretty good so far.

Planning: A busy weekend – housework, paperwork, my daughter’s birthday (!), producing PTA on Sunday

Wearing: Office casual / travel clothes

Arting: Nothing, which sucks. Will draw something at lunch.

Watched: I also saw “The Lives of Others” this weekend and was totally blown away by it. A fascinating look into pre-unification East Germany with a really moving story too. Good stuff.

  37. Reading: Swashbucklers of the 7 Skies

Planning: Dresden Files game tomorrow, hanging out with friends, going with to see my father, brother, mother, and possibly some of my maternal cousins on Sunday.

Wearing: Hildebrant t-shirt of Bilbo, jeans

Writing: Just finished my zine for Alarums and Exucrsions #406. I may add more if it’s significantly under max length, but probably not. FWIW, folks there are asking when 1st Quest will be ready. I’m guessing about a year after you do the rewrite.

  41. TRAP mnemonic of my weekend:

Threat: Spending the weekend avoiding housework instead of doing housework.

Reward: A clean house and time to write.

Asset: My brother, who is an actual blacksmith and an uber handyman is home for the weekend.

Problem: A basement full of chaos.
